Make your Wallside Windows a focal point this Halloween

With Trick-or-Treat plans on hold in many communities due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this Halloween may look and feel different for many families. But some Michigan residents prove that this Oct. 31 can still provide plenty of spooky, scary fun for all - with a little creativity.

Becky Hermann of Dearborn Heights, Mich. recently hired Wallside Windows to create a bay window for her home. And she’s already made the most of it with Halloween décor.

Becky Hermann noticed her neighbors smiling as they passed by this bay window, where her daughter would often create a display of toys. They decided it was perfect to display their Halloween pumpkins and skeletons this year, too.

“We usually decorate the door and the garden areas in front of our house,” she says. “Since we got our bay window from Wallside, we've been using that area as our showcase of sorts.”

The bay window is filled with festive pumpkins – and likely to keep the Hermann home in the holiday spirit all throughout the entire fall season.

“We love nature, and the squirrels in our neighborhood,” Hermann said. “We do not love that they snack on our Fall decor! We got some really great pumpkins and gourds at Bird's Big Pumpkins in Romulus this year and really wanted them to last!”

By displaying them inside, in the windows, her family’s pumpkins won’t freeze or become a snack for the neighborhood squirrels. Instead, Hermann says, she hopes they last through Halloween and become a nice Thanksgiving look, as well – perhaps without the animal skeletons.

The new Wallside Window she added to her home last August has proved more important than she would have ever expected. Hermann said the experience of adding a bay window was wonderful.

“I was just so pleased with how well the window turned out and what it adds to my home's visual and resale appeal,” she says. “It was well worth the investment.”

What’s more, our home windows have become a way to connect with others, through a 2020 quarantine and these unexpected, often isolated times.

“We've noticed that since the pandemic, a lot of our neighbors have been outdoors more -walking or biking,” says Hermann. “My 6-year-old daughter, Lucy, had been using the bay window as a display case for her stuffed animals. We noticed that people were stopping and smiling at her impromptu displays.”

Becky Hermann, a Dearborn Heights resident, let her summer flowers grow wild to add to the spooky feel of this outdoor display – but it’s the bay window that’s been bringing smiles to her neighbors.

That reaction sparked some serious inspiration for the fall and holiday season to come.

“We knew that this year we would have to up our holiday decorating game for folks to enjoy as they're out and about,” added Hermann. “We want to instill a united front that while the holidays will be so different this year, they are still happening!

“Sharing joy and kindness in our community has always been a big priority in our family, but the need for joy and kindness is even greater now.”
