Wallside Windows keep us connected through challenging times

As we navigate the COVID-19 health crisis to ensure the safety of our family, friends and employees here at Wallside Windows, we are touched to see how the windows in your homes are providing a glimpse of life as we all Stay Home and Stay Safe.

Windows mean more than ever to us today. For one local family, windows made a child’s birthday even brighter.

Windows mean more than ever to us today. For one local family, windows made a child’s birthday even brighter.

For one local family in Bloomfield Hills, windows became a meaningful conduit as their son’s 5th birthday party was cancelled. Ethan’s birthday was March 16 and his party was supposed to be at a local gym with friends and classmates, his father Nathan told us.

“His birthday was on a Sunday and we cancelled it on Friday,” said Nathan. “He was really upset.”

Though the family had a cake and celebrated Ethan’s big day quietly at home, life began to feel a lot brighter when Ethan received birthday “visits” from neighbors and friends through the windows of his home.

“It was really sweet,” his father said. “You really don’t realize the importance of something like a window when you’re living everyday life. Something so simple becomes so powerful. He just wanted to have a birthday and a little bit of interaction.”

Ethan received even more than that. The moment was recreated, captured and used in our most recent commercial, too - thanks to Nathan’s post production company, Push Media, that worked on the commercial. Ethan’s unexpected TV appearance has made his birthday an even bigger hit with his friends, his father said.

And that just another reason we believe that windows talk. Now more than ever.

The Detroit Free Press recently shared an emotional photo essay that also captures this sentiment. Our lives feel very contained in this time of isolation. We connect with others by phone or through video chats but also through our home windows and door walls.

We check in with our neighbors from behind glass and we share our best wishes through handmade signs hung in our home windows to greet passers-by on our streets.

“The importance of windows is something you take for granted,” Nathan said.
