Two days of Opening Day in Detroit meant two days of safe rides home from Wallside

Sports fans here at Wallside Windows and across the region consider Detroit Tiger’s Opening Day to be an unofficial start to summer – and a local holiday.

Wallside Windows spoke to WXYZ-TV’s Keenan Smith about our Safe Ride with Wallside program for Opening Day.

This year, the highly-anticipated festivities were delayed by one day due to inclement weather. Still, rain didn’t dampen our spirits. The decision didn’t impact our efforts to help baseball fans make it home safely from Comerica Park. We acted fast.

Perhaps you saw the news about our Safe Ride With Wallside partnership when our Chief of Staff Adam Blanck spoke to TV 20 and WXYZ-TV Detroit.

“We want to make sure people are able to make it home safely,” Blanck told WXYZ-TV’s Keenan Smith. “We really thought it was a great way to give back to the Detroit community. We wanted to do something extra for Tigers fans this Opening Day.”

Around 9 a.m. Thursday the Detroit Tigers announced that the game would be delayed to Friday — though fans were already streaming into downtown Detroit. Our team made an immediate decision to extend our half-off Lyft rides through the two day period. “It was the right thing to do," added Adam Blanck. Our Wallside team contacted Lyft and quickly prepared for two days of Opening Day discounts.

The news also made it to Channel 4 and WDIV's ClickonDetroit.com, news outlets like Crain's Detroit Business, CBSDetroit.com, Fox Sports Detroit, online news hotspots like Opportunity Detroit, MLive and Daily Detroit and of course radio stations like 97.1 FM The Ticket and 98.7 FM Amp Radio and WJR.

This is the second year Wallside Windows has partnered with Lyft to provide half-off ride services for our Safe Ride with Wallside program. This year the program was extended to Lyft users and made available both Thursday and Friday, March 29 and 30 between the hours of 1 and 8 p.m. for those traveling from Comerica Park festivities.

Fans used the code WALLSIDE2018 and saved half off a ride home after the game. Hundreds of people took part in the promotion this year.
