When Renee Romans heads out on a sales call for Wallside Windows, she never knows what she’ll find.
“I did a window for a chicken coop,” she says, recalling one of her more unusual sales of a vinyl replacement window.
Renee’s territory is wide-ranging and spans more rural parts of Michigan, which means she visits a lot of farmhouses. On a recent afternoon, she was on her way to visit a farm whose owner had listed his chickens, goats and dogs as his significant others.
“I love the farm people,” she says. “I see a different lifestyle north. For the most part, it’s wonderful. People are genuine and laid back.”
For the nearly five years she’s worked for Wallside, Renee has found herself anywhere from Oscoda to Harrison Township, Midland or Waterford on any given day. She says all those miles are kept interesting thanks to the sprawling farmland, and old barns and homes full of history.
“I see so much beauty,” she says.
Renee’s career has taken various turns, from running her own interior design business in Rochester then Oxford for over 20 years, to doing philanthropic work before joining Wallside, she has always worked in sales and enjoyed visiting customers at their homes.
“I like people’s stories. I like to know what people are about, and when people trust you and you are genuine, you’re going to sell,” she says, adding that it’s important to talk to customers and develop a rapport.
“Yes, it’s about the product. The product, to me, is amazing and sells itself. But it’s not always about the windows or the product; it’s about the person,” she says. “You find out what their needs are. They want to talk about, ‘This is how long we’ve been here’ or ‘We’re going to sell’ or ‘This was my grandpa’s house.’ Once they start talking, about that, I’m genuinely interested.”
Her ability to connect with others has made Wallside feel like home to her too.
“When I go into the Wallside Factory, which is may every six months, I hug probably 15 people. When I say they are family, they are family. They are wonderful, caring goodhearted people.”
She recalls how she immediately felt comfortable when she met Co-Owner Stanford Blanck and Chief of Staff Adam Blanck.
“Overall, the job with them and working who I work for, I would work for no other,” she says.
When Renee isn’t on the road, she likes to enjoy sunsets and paddleboard on the lake where she lives, and spend time with her family, which includes her husband, two sons and two grandchildren. “I’m really all about family,” she says.
