A team from Wallside Windows were ready to run at the recent I Ran the D event in Detroit.

A team of 25 Wallside Windows family members and their own families got active, celebrated spring and supported youth sports on April 29 at the third annual I Ran the D 5K run/walk.

Runners and walkers met outside Detroit’s Comerica Park at the big tiger that crisp, sunny Sunday morning and made their way around local streets on a route that resembled a D. The official finish line was the entrance to the Tigers field. Participants got to run around the baseball field and up into the concourse to receive their medals.

That time on the field was something special that Wallside Windows processing coordinator Ashlei Bradley said she enjoys each year.

“It was a really cool experience!” she said of the day. “My favorite part is reaching the finish line and being able to walk on the field.”

The Wallside team has participated all three years, and members look forward to the challenge of marking a better time each year.

“I think this year was one of the best for I Walk/Ran the D,” said Angie Laesser of Taylor, who added that she likes to stay busy in the community and does awareness walks for causes such as multiple sclerosis, autism and suicide prevention. “Everyone was peppy and ready for a good walk/run. I shaved 10 minutes off my time from last year and intend on bettering that next year.”

Ashlei said her goal was to beat her time from last year too, which she also did by about 10 minutes.

The Wallside team was organized by Chief of Staff Adam Blanck, who ran the whole 5K for the first time this year having previously walked it. He said the team looks forward to the event every year.

“We love to provide the Wallside family opportunity to have meaningful time outside of the workplace to spend time with each other. I Ran the D is such a fun activity. Also, promoting a wellness lifestyle is important and this activity is a great way to get the body moving in a fun way,” he said.

Ashlei and Angie agree.

“This is a great event for co-workers to band together and have fun all at the same time,” said Angie, who has been with Wallside for 15 years and works in the accounting department.

“I wanted to participate because I always have a good time hanging out with my Wallside family,” said Ashlei, who’s worked at Wallside for nine years. “Plus, it’s something I wouldn’t have signed up for myself.”
