The power of our well-insulated windows is created by a combination of the glass and vinyl working together. Cardinal Glass uses a stainless steel spacer between layers of glass that’s known in the industry as a “warm edge spacer,” because it doesn’t conduct cold like other aluminum or tin spacers can, explained Dave Ball, operations manager for Wallside Windows. In addition, he said, the vinyl around the glass is made with multiple chambers that help create barriers.

“Some companies will use the thinner walls along with fewer chambers created inside of the product, and that can make a big difference in performance,” Dave said, explaining one reason Wallside’s windows stand out above their competitors’.

In addition to the vinyl itself being a barrier, foam insulation is also used within the window’s vinyl walls. In use for a few years, the foam filling is relatively new provides a greater insulation for the window.

“We also use foam sealants around our windows and the home to help seal them in there,” he added. The foam is watertight and creates a better seal, Dave said.

Although Wallside’s replacement vinyl windows are made to stand up to the company’s 35-year warranty and beyond, the company and industry are always looking for ways to improve efficiency, Dave said.
