2025 Tax Credit Information

Unlike previous years, the 2025 Energy Efficient Home Improvement Tax Credit came with new requirements and challenges for consumers like you and manufacturers like Wallside Windows.

We know it can be exciting to see a possible IRS tax credit for the products you purchased from us in 2025. Unfortunately, because of changes made to the tax code, very few windows qualify for these credits.

Below, we’ll explain what happened and why the IRS’s process created a roadblock for homeowners like you to take advantage of the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Tax Credit for 2025.

If you believe your 2025 Wallside Windows project does meet all criteria for a tax credit (read more below), you can fill out the form on this page and the Wallside team will review your records. We are committed to issuing a payment in the amount of the IRS credit to any customer who qualified for one.

Who qualifies for a 2025 tax credit on their windows?

Specifically, to claim the tax credit in our region of the country, you would need to have purchased a specialized, premium triple-pane casement or picture window from Wallside with a ≤ 0.20 and a Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) ≥ 0.20. Doors require dual pane, premium glass with a U-Factor of .25 and a SHGC ≥ 0.30. These specifications go way beyond the needs of most homeowners and are not what Wallside would recommend for most homes in our region.

Windows and doors meeting this specification are also significantly more expensive than the energy-efficient windows most customers choose. And they cost significantly more than the total of any IRS credits. That tax credit is 30% of the qualifying cost, not including labor, but no more than $600 for windows. For exterior doors, the credit is $250 per door, with a maximum of $500. The credit has since been ended by Congress and is not in place for 2026 and beyond. As a result, the credit applies to a very small number of residential windows or doors sold in the United States.

Does Wallside have a special code I can use to try to claim an IRS tax credit?

We do not have a special code. Beginning in 2025, the IRS created a brand-new rule: To qualify for a tax credit, windows must be made by a “Qualified Manufacturer” – a company that registers through a new IRS portal and signs a formal agreement with the IRS. This provides manufacturers with a QMID – Qualified Manufacturer Identification ID number.

This agreement requires manufacturers to register in the IRS Energy Credits Portal, enter into the Qualified Manufacturer Agreement, receive a special QM Code, and assign 17-digit Product Identification Numbers to every qualifying window and report these numbers to the IRS regularly.

Wallside created an account and started this process in 2025, but the IRS never notified us that the ability to finalize the agreement would end on December 31, 2025, and could not be completed afterward so that it applied to products installed in 2025.

When we contacted the IRS in January 2026 to finish the registration process, we were told the registration period had officially closed. No manufacturer could complete the agreement in 2026, and any window produced in 2025 could not be certified retroactively.

Because of this, the IRS does not permit Wallside Windows to issue a Qualified Manufacturer ID for any 2025 installations, which is required to claim the credit.

What does this mean for you and your taxes?

Putting both IRS requirements together:

  1. Because the IRS closed the Qualified Manufacturer program without warning, Wallside cannot issue the required manufacturer ID for any 2025 installations.

  2. And for 2025, windows and doors must meet a specification that is far beyond typical residential products. Only a small percentage of our customers in 2025 bought windows that meet that specification.

These two federal requirements combined mean that most Wallside customers would not qualify and be unable to claim the 2025 tax credit.

Our commitment as a family-owned company

Wallside has been family-owned and operated for more than 80 years. Our reputation is built on being honest with our customers, doing the right thing, and delivering energy-efficient windows at an affordable price, not just the highest-priced options on the market.

We understand that many of our customers may be frustrated by not qualifying for a credit for a large investment to make their home more energy efficient. Sadly, the IRS requirements and changes were outside our control with little recourse available to either of us.

As a result, while we are not obligated to do so, Wallside will offer a check in the amount of the IRS credit to those who would qualify for a tax credit.
